How to prepare Grandma’s Sponge Cake

To prepare this delicious cake, you will need:

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup (tea) wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cup (tea) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (tea) oil
  • 1/2 cup (tea) water
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 level tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 pinch of salt

Preparation:

1. Prior preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Grease and flour a cake tin about 24 cm in diameter.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, sift together the wheat flour, sugar, baking powder and pinch of salt. Mix these dry ingredients well to make sure they are well incorporated.

3. Wet Ingredient Mix

  • In another bowl, beat the eggs until slightly foamy.
  • Add the oil, water and vanilla essence to the beaten eggs and mix well.

4. Combination of Ingredients

  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredient mixture, mixing gently with a spatula or whisk. Make sure to mix until all the ingredients are well integrated and there are no lumps, but avoid overmixing so as not to develop too much of the gluten in the flour.
