Thomas closed his eyes, as if he could cope on his own.
I turned to the woman and smiled.

She let out a raspy breath and took a shaky step back.
“No. No. No! It can’t be. Thomas said he never married! That work was too important throughout his life. But he didn’t want to be a bachelor married only to his job…”

Tears welled up in her eyes.
“Oh my God,” she said.
And just like that, Thomas's whole world came crashing down.
