Why I Don't Flush the Toilet Every Time Anymore (And You Should Think About It)

This daily waste often goes unnoticed. However, if an average family uses the toilet about ten times a day, that equates to 100 liters of water per day, or more than 36,000 liters per year. In comparison, some populations around the world do not always have daily access to clean drinking water.

A simple rule has become established in many environmentally conscious households:

“If it’s yellow, we wait; if it’s brown, we let it go.”

In other words, we only flush the toilet when absolutely necessary, not every time we urinate. Urine is naturally sterile and poses no immediate health risk as long as the toilet is cleaned regularly.
