A fit life

Back in the village, these women form a veritable aquatic convoy. Along the way, they exchange joyful conversations, laughter, and news, like grandmothers everywhere. Their weekly routine is so intense that it could rival that of the haenyeo divers of Jeju Island in South Korea, renowned for their underwater endurance and ability to hold their breath for long periods. These heroines of Tinambun, despite their advanced age, embody strength and determination.

The village, aware of the hard work of these grandmothers, offers them a modest reward. For each trip completed, they receive $6.50, or about 6 euros. Although this may not seem like much, this amount represents a valuable contribution to these families, representing a significant source of income in this isolated region.
