From February 1, 2026, everyday medications will no longer be reimbursed by health insurance: the French will have to pay for them out of pocket.
Put like that, it may sound abstract. But in concrete terms? It means that certain common medications, but deemed ineffective by health authorities, will no longer be fully covered… even for the most vulnerable patients.
Which medications are affected?
The list is long, but among the most famous are:
Gaviscon, for gastroesophageal reflux
Spasfon, for digestive pain
Dexeryl, for dry or atopic skin
Betadine, for skin disinfection
Until now, these products were reimbursed at 100% for patients with long-term illnesses (diabetes, cancer, chronic diseases, etc.). From 2026, they will only be covered at 15%, as for the rest of the population.
