From February 1, 2026, everyday medications will no longer be reimbursed by health insurance: the French will have to pay for them out of pocket.
A prescription will no longer be enough.
What surprises patients most? The fact that even with a medical prescription, these medications will almost no longer be reimbursed. And the majority of mutual health insurance companies do not cover these products, unless they subscribe to a specific option.
Result: medications that you used to get for free at the pharmacy could now represent a significant expense each month.
Why this decision now?
It was a joint report by the Igas (General Inspectorate of Social Affairs) and the General Inspectorate of Finance that relaunched the issue. According to their calculations, the delisting of these drugs alone would save nearly 90 million euros.
