I Wish I Had Rooted Geraniums This Way Sooner – Strong Roots Start Appearing in Just 2 Days!

Here’s a step-by-step guide to get strong, healthy roots in as little as 2 days.

You’ll Need:

  • Healthy geranium plant for cuttings

  • A clean, sharp knife or scissors

  • Cinnamon powder (natural antifungal and rooting stimulant)

  • A small container with damp cocopeat, perlite, or sand

  • Optional: a plastic bag or clear container to create humidity

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Select the Right Cutting
Choose a semi-woody stem that is not too young or too old. It should be about 7–10 cm long with 3–4 healthy leaves. Remove any flowers or buds to redirect energy into rooting.

  2. Make a Clean Cut
Using sterilized scissors or a knife, cut just below a leaf node (where the leaf joins the stem). This is where roots will develop most effectively.

  3. Dry the Cutting (Important!)
Let the cutting sit at room temperature for 6–12 hours to allow the cut end to callous over. This reduces the risk of rot once it’s planted.

  4. Apply Cinnamon to the Cut End
Dip the base of the cutting into cinnamon powder. Cinnamon acts as both a natural antifungal and a mild rooting stimulant, protecting the cutting while encouraging root growth.

  5. Plant in a Light Substrate
Fill a small container with moist (not wet) cocopeat, perlite, or clean sand. These materials are ideal because they drain well and allow air to reach the stem base.

  6. Create a Mini Greenhouse (Optional)
If your home environment is dry, cover the pot with a plastic bag or dome to maintain humidity. Be sure to poke a few holes to prevent mold buildup.

  7. Keep Warm and Bright, Not Hot
Place the cutting in a warm, bright spot with indirect sunlight. Avoid harsh sun until roots form.
