I gently took her hand and said, “Don’t worry. Today, you’re going to feel beautiful.”

I styled her hair carefully, brushed on her makeup with patience and warmth, and helped her find an elegant, confident look that matched the love in her heart. When she reached into her purse to hand me the crumpled bills, I smiled and said softly, “No charge — this one’s on me.”
