Born of the Storm: A Night of Fear, a Morning of Hope
The night Luna went into labor, the house was filled with quiet anticipation. Our husky, her belly heavy and round, had spent the day nesting, preparing for the arrival of her puppies.
We thought we were ready—the blankets were laid out, the vet’s number saved on speed dial, and our hearts braced for a night filled with soft yelps and new life.
But what unfolded was something entirely different.
When Joy Turns to Fear
The first puppies arrived quickly. Luna was calm and instinctive, gently licking each newborn clean, nudging them close, and letting them nurse. We watched in awe, relief flooding through us.
Then suddenly, everything stopped.
One last pup remained inside, stubbornly refusing to come. Hours stretched on as we tried everything—walking Luna, massaging her gently, whispering encouragement. Nothing worked. Her exhaustion grew palpable. Her eyes met ours—not with panic, but with quiet surrender.
After six long hours, we knew we couldn’t wait any longer. Wrapping Luna in a blanket, we rushed her to the emergency vet clinic, hope fraying with every passing mile.
A Shocking Diagnosis
At the clinic, the vet wasted no time. An X-ray confirmed our worst fears—two puppies still inside, but neither showing a heartbeat.
Surgery was our only option. The vet explained the grim reality: the puppies were likely gone, but the surgery was necessary to save Luna.
We nodded numbly, signed the paperwork, and waited as Luna was taken into the operating room.
